IN AN EFFORT TO REACH OUR GOALS OF BECOMING THE HUB FOR COLUMBUS TENNIS, AND ENRICHING THE LIVES OF OUR UA COMMUNITY THROUGH TENNIS, WE WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
EXPOSE MORE YOUTHS TO TENNIS
This is our number 1 priority. Youths are being pulled in many directions for their recreation time. As a result, we are seeing a decrease in kids starting to play tennis. We want to counter the movement by sponsoring grade school age introductory clinics in the spring and fall at the new high school facility with attention to sportsmanship, character and respect for all involved. We are convinced the more kids we expose to tennis, the more that will choose tennis as their sport, ultimately enriching their lives in countless ways. In 2022, which was our first year of operation, we registered 55 new grade school youths to our introductory clinics.
RAMP UP TOURNAMENTS
& TENNIS EVENTS
We would like to promote and sponsor several new tournaments in UA as a way of creating interest and momentum in tennis. An event under consideration to sponsor is the OTCA state high school team championships. In addition, we hope to sponsor professional exhibitions for the enjoyment of the community. 0n 7/2/22, we held a 50 year reunion for the "72" National Boys Champions and an exhibition featuring top ATP Touring professional JJ Wolf.
ENHANCE UA TENNIS FACILITIES
& EQUIPMENT
We are fortunate to have a brand new, state of the art tennis facility at the new UA High School, which we designed for the school. It is one of the finest high school facilities in the country. However, to hold some larger events, a few items are needed which are beyond the scope of high school tennis. For example, we need a permanent shelter pavilion in the tennis center as a central place to protect spectators, players, coaches, and administrators of tournaments and special events from sun, heat, and rain. Also, we have already purchased equipment such as scoring systems, ball carts, ball hoppers, youth tennis balls, court squeegees, flags, court stencils, table umbrellas, and storage shelving units.
PROVIDE HELP TO ASPIRING
JUNIOR TENNIS PLAYERS
Tennis is a magnificent sport which offers tremendous opportunities for junior players. However, it can become expensive if they desire to play tournaments and travel. For those UA junior players who are serious about advancing their tennis careers, and who are in need of financial assistance, we hope to be in a position to offer grants. For those junior players who have a high level of passion and determination, we can offer individual instruction on proper stroke technique to help them reach their potential. We are also prepared to offer guidance on training issues as well as tournament selection.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
The UA Tennis Foundation, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status in any of its activities or operations. We are committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment for all players, spectators, volunteers, subcontractors, and vendors.
